Quality

Quality Grading and Selection

Boards are inspected for straightness, surface quality, knot distribution and consistency of thermal modification. Grading follows established European hardwood standards adapted for thermally modified material.

Available in select and standard grades. Select-grade material is typically specified for visible facade cladding and high-end decking, while standard-grade boards are used for structural subframes and concealed applications. View thermo ash specifications for detailed grading criteria.

Properties

Key Material Properties

Dimensional Stability

Equilibrium moisture content of 4–6% minimizes expansion, contraction and warping.

Low Moisture Uptake

Reduced from 12–15% to 4–6% for consistent performance in exterior conditions.

Durability Class 1–2

EN 350 rated. Suitable for ventilated facade cladding and exterior decking.

Chemical-Free

Modified at 392–428°F (200–220°C) using only heat and steam. No additives.

Container-Scale Supply

Approx. 1,400 ft³ (40 m³) per 40 ft container. Export-ready packaging.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are typical thermo ash dimensions?

Standard thermo ash boards are available in thicknesses of 0.8–2.4 in (20–60 mm), widths of 2.4–7.1 in (60–180 mm), and lengths of 6–10 ft (1.8–3 m). Custom dimensions are available for project-specific and volume orders.

What profiles are available?

Woodmann offers planed, brushed, and profiled finishes. Planed boards provide a smooth surface for cladding. Profiled boards include anti-slip textures for decking. Custom profiles are available for volume orders.

What is the density and durability class?

Thermally modified ash has a density of approximately 40 lb/ft³ (650 kg/m³), an equilibrium moisture content of 4–6%, and achieves Durability Class 1–2 according to EN 350.

Is thermo ash available in container quantities?

Yes. Woodmann supplies thermo ash in container-scale volumes, with a typical 40 ft container holding approximately 1,400 ft³ (40 m³) of material. Orders include export-ready packaging and full documentation for international shipping.
